History of NACEST

Our Story

The Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST), formerly known as the Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies (NAITES), was established in 1978 at NASME Barracks, Makurdi.

The institution was created to provide quality technical and professional education in environmental sciences, engineering, technology and management disciplines.

Over the years, NACEST has grown into one of Nigeria's foremost military-owned tertiary institutions with accredited National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes.

1978

Foundation as NAITES

Founded as Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies (NAITES) at NASME Barracks, Makurdi. Focused on Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Architecture, and Environmental Health.

1980s – 2000s

Growth and Development

Expanded into a civil-military hub with new courses like Computer Science, Business Administration, and Accountancy. NBTE accreditation secured, and facilities upgraded significantly.

2010s

Transition to NACEST

Upgraded from NAITES → NACEST, reflecting broader academic autonomy and recognition. Expanded ND & HND programmes across sciences, technology, and management.

2020 – Present

Recent Developments

Adoption of ICT in admissions, results & e-learning. New lecture halls, labs & hostel renovations, strengthened partnerships, and growing student enrollment yearly.
